GCSAA has awarded its 2019 Joseph S. Garske Collegiate Grants totaling $12,000 to nine college students who are children of golf course superintendents.
Established in honor of Par Aide founder Joseph S. Garske, the Garske grant program is funded by the golf course accessories company and administered by the Environmental Institute for Golf, the philanthropic organization of GCSAA. For 16 years, the program has helped children and stepchildren of GCSAA members fund their education at an accredited college or trade school with one-time, one-year grants. Grants are based on community service, leadership, academic performance and an essay.
“Through the generosity of longtime supporter Par Aide, we are able to help the children of our members further their education through the Garske grants,” says GCSAA CEO Rhett Evans. “We wish these students, who are part of the GCSAA family, the best of luck as they pursue dreams.”

Jaden Kervern has earned a $2,500 scholarship and is planning to attend Florida State University to major in political science. Her father, George Kervern, is the superintendent at Palm Beach (Fla.) Country Club.
Karley Warner has earned a $2,500 scholarship and is planning to attend the University of Tennessee at Martin to major in animal science/veterinary science. Her father, Tyler Warner, is a sales manager at The Andersons in Spencer, Tenn.
Gabriel Campion has earned a $1,000 scholarship and is planning to attend Ohio State University to major in biology. His father, James Campion III, is the director of golf courses and grounds at NCR Country Club in Dayton, Ohio.
Henry J. Cella has earned a $1,000 scholarship and is planning to attend the University of Notre Dame to major in finance. His father, Luke Cella, CGCS, is the executive director of the Midwest Association of Golf Course Superintendents in Lemont, Ill.
Jonathan Charlton has earned a $1,000 scholarship and is planning to attend the University of Pennsylvania to major in journalism. His father, Daniel Charlton, is the superintendent at Evanston Golf Club in Skokie, Ill.
Anna Disselkamp has earned a $1,000 scholarship and is planning to attend the University of Louisville to major in English and studio art. Her father, Aaron Disselkamp, CGCS, is the superintendent at Standard Country Club in Louisville, Ky.
Sydney McCleary has earned a $1,000 scholarship and is planning to attend the University of Arizona to major in business/pre-law. Her father, Joseph McCleary, CGCS, is a retired GCSAA member in Centennial, Colo.
Maggie Taylor has earned a $1,000 scholarship and is planning to attend Juniata College to major in politics/international relations. Her father, Frederick N. Taylor III, CGCS, is the superintendent at Mankato (Minn.) Golf Club.
Abbie Wooten has earned a $1,000 scholarship and is planning to attend Oklahoma State University to major in plant biotechnology and improvement. Her father, Jared Wooten, is the superintendent at Stillwater (Okla.) Country Club.
