2018 GCSAA Golf Championships set for February in San Antonio
The Resort Course at La Cantera — one of five venues for the 2018 GCSAA Golf Championships in San Antonio — features an abundance of natural water features, swift running streams, magnificent live oak trees, limestone rock outcroppings, and 75 dramatic white sand bunkers.

The GCSAA Golf Championships will be contested Feb. 3-5, 2018, in San Antonio, Texas, as part of the Golf Industry Show.

The championships, presented in partnership with The Toro Co. and benefiting the Environmental Institute for Golf, will offer four different events over three days and will draw members of all abilities. The competitions will take place at five high-end courses in the San Antonio area, including The AT&T Oaks Course at TPC San Antonio, home of the PGA Tour’s Valero Texas Open.

In addition to the GCSAA National Championship Feb. 4-5, a four-ball competition will be held Feb. 3, followed by a scramble event on Feb. 4. The two-day Golf Classic is scheduled for Feb. 4-5, and will offer both a gross and net flighted competition that will use a point-quota scoring system. Flights in the Golf Classic will rotate between courses.

More than 460 GCSAA members participated in the 2017 combined championships, with Mike Stieler winning the 36-hole, stroke play National Championship at the Ritz-Carlton, Grande Lakes, in Orlando. Stieler, the Certified Golf Course Superintendent at Spring Creek Golf and Country Club in Ripon, Calif., won his second GCSAA title (the first was in 2012) by two strokes. The National Championship is limited to 100 GCSAA members with a 5.0 handicap index or lower, and will be played at Cordillera Ranch and The Oaks Course.

Other courses welcoming golfers over the three days of events are AT&T Canyons Course at TPC San Antonio, La Cantera (Resort Course) and The Quarry. Read more about the courses and competitions on the Golf Industry Show website.

The PGA of America, which has been involved in the event for more than 15 years, will provide Rules officials and course setup. In addition, The Toro Co. will mark its 24th year as the presenting partner of the GCSAA Golf Championships. Toro, a GCSAA Platinum Partner, is a global leader in providing maintenance equipment and irrigation systems to golf courses.

The 2018 GCSAA Golf Championships will be held in conjunction with the Golf Industry Show, featuring the GCSAA Education Conference and the trade show, Feb. 5-8 at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center in the Riverwalk area of downtown San Antonio.
